Super-MAC: Data Duplication and Combining for Reliability Enhancements in Next-Generation Networks

A piece of user equipment (UE), typically, has access to multiple radio technologies (RATS). Moreover, apart from the standard primary cellular network, secondary networks can assist network in downlink UE communications. In this way, data reach through entities. This paper exploits entities’ idea by proposing a cross-layer scheme that combines improve block error rate (BLER) and throughput. For this, we define new entity, called super-MAC, just above Medium Access Control (MAC) layer. More specifically, propose duplication (at transmitter) combining UE) at where super-MAC gets Radio Link Layer protocol unit (RLC-PDU) sends multiple-copies across various interfaces different MAC-entities. doing so, attaches unique sequence number group RLC-PDUs together. At UE, MAC entities are combined clear any error. The operates between Cyclic Redundancy Check Forward Error Correction stages HARQ process. additional complexity introduced is negligible front existing operations. average latency improves due significant improvement Block offers over BLER conventional standalone system. Also, since errors significantly reduce, throughput shows improvement. Finally, proposed an advancement reduce retransmissions, hence it suitable for next-generation like B5G or 6G adopt super-MAC.
